Just a 5 minute walk from Shepherds Views will find you on a beautiful sandy beach where you can build sandcastles with your family or go for a romantic evening stroll to watch the sunset.
A short stroll up the lane through the farmyard will take you to Halsenna Moor, an area of conservation and natural beauty. Choose one of the designated walks and look out for the wild deer grazing, fox cubs playing, the red squirrels and many wild birds and animals native to the moor.
Yet another short stroll finds you at Spindlecraft, a quaint craft shop, which is part of the old station house. The railway station serves the Barrow to Carlisle West Coast line, so you don't even have to drive all the time.
Just a short drive brings you to Muncaster Castle & Ravenglass & Eskdale narrow-guage railway,' The L'al Ratty.' Slightly further afield is Grasmere, Ambleside, Coniston, Hawkshead & Windermere, which are all a short hop over the hills! Via Hardknott Pass that is.
The nearest Public House to Shepherds Views is the Victoria Hotel, which is just under a mile. There are a number of traditional Public Houses & Restaurants in and around the area, where you can also sample some traditional ales & good home-made meals using local produce.

More local is Muncaster Castle, Ravenglass - Eskdale Railway, Hardknott Pass & Roman Fort, Eskdale Green, Wastwater, Ennerdale, St Bees & Seascale.
The village station next to the Victoria Hotel, provides a good train service Monday to Saturday taking you to places such as Whitehaven to the North where there is a fishing harbour and marina which hosts the annual Tall Ships Race. You can also pay a visit to the "Rum Story" and experience the story of the rum smugglers.

Just a little bit further by train is Maryport which has an aquarium with coffee shop and gift shop, remote controlled boats and mini golf.
To the South you can travel by train to the small village of Ravenglass which is the home of the famous la'al Ratty Railway which stops off at places such as Muncaster Mill on its journey to Dalegarth at Eskdale. Just up the road from Dalegarth is a recently restored watermill. Over the valley, beside the river Esk is the quaint church of St Catherine. Over the stepping stones are several deep pools for keen swimmers. A short distance from Ravenglass is Muncaster Castle with its famous ghosts, home to the British Owl Breeding Centre & World Owl Trust and magnificent gardens.
